Luminous Ivory Rectangular is the coursed member of the Luminous Ivory family: Portuguese natural limestone from Central Portugal, supplied with a Natural Split-Face surface for facades and wall cladding. Rectangular is coursed in heights of 10, 15 or 20 cm with lengths up to 60 cm, agreed to suit the project, so the wall is built up in recognisable horizontal lines rather than as a free composition.

Rectangular format: a coursed, ordered elevation

That regular proportion changes how the elevation is read. Horizontal joints run through, the eye follows a line rather than a pattern, and the natural tonal variation of the ivory limestone is distributed evenly across a repeating module instead of being concentrated in individual large pieces. The split face still gives every piece its own broken relief, so the surface is textured at close range while remaining disciplined from a distance — a combination that suits contemporary elevations, narrower wall areas between openings, and walls that sit next to precise materials such as glazing, rendered surfaces or metal trims.

LI/RT next to the irregular and hand-chiseled pieces

The two comparisons worth making are both within the same collection. Against Luminous Ivory Irregular the difference is Format: a coursed layout instead of a dispersed one, with the same stone and the same tonal range. Against Luminous Ivory Hand-Chiseled Rectangular the Format is shared and the difference is Surface, since the hand-worked face is finer and more even than a natural split face.

Thicknesses and coursed setting out

Known indicative pallet yields are about 25, 20 and 15 m² for 2–3, 4–6 and 6–8 cm, with an average pallet weight of 1,300–2,500 kg; every thickness option is listed in the technical specifications table. Setting out, coursing and any cutting at openings or corners are agreed with the project designer and an experienced stone installer, and representative samples or a project mock-up may help confirm how the tonal range distributes across a coursed wall.

How the coursed surface behaves in light
